Diabetes is the consequence of high levels of glucose, which are present in the blood. Doctors prescribe many different kinds of medicines in order to control the blood sugar levels in the body. But it is extremely important to follow a strict, healthy and nutritious diet in order to control the blood sugar levels in the body. This will indirectly control the diabetes. Doctors have prepared specific diet charts for diabetics. Following this diet chart in a religious manner will help in gaining better control of the blood sugar levels in the body.

Taking insulin injections alone on a regular basis will not help in controlling the blood sugar levels in the body. The right kind of food which contains all the required nutrients like carbohydrates, proteins and fiber will help in controlling the blood sugar levels in the body. Diabetics should not consume any kind of food, which contains sugar like chocolates and ice creams and they should also avoid foods, which are rich in carbohydrates. People who have been diagnosed with diabetes should also avoid foods, which contain saturated fats and cholesterol.

A diet chart for diabetics will include foods, which will help in lowering the blood sugar levels in the body. Doctors have stated that diabetics should not consume more than 1200-1800 calories in a day. Their meals should contain 50% carbohydrates, 20% proteins and 30% fats. The amount of calories consumed will determine the energy levels in the body. A proper healthy balanced diet will contain less fat and plenty of fiber and proteins. This will help in digesting the food, which is consumed in an easy manner, and this will also filter out all the bad cholesterols in the body. The frequency of the consumption of the meals is also important for a diabetic in order to maintain the blood sugar levels in the body.

Foods, which are beneficial to diabetics, are whole grains, skimmed milk, vegetables, lean meat, bread and fruits. Apart from consuming the right kind of food, a diabetic should also watch the amount of food, which is being consumed in every meal. It is more beneficial for a diabetic to have four to five meals in a day where food is consumed in small quantities. These well-regulated meals along with the right kind of exercise will help in controlling the blood sugar levels in the body.

The diet chart meant for diabetics will help us to know what are the foods and snacks, which can be consumed, by diabetics and the duration and frequency of the meals will also be mentioned over here. This kind of a diet chart will be beneficial for the entire family since it will not only control the blood sugar levels but it will also keep a watch on the blood pressure, cholesterol and the general weight of the body. Foods which contain whole grains like brown rice, brown bread, vegetables and cereal which contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, fiber like cabbage, spinach, broccoli, Brussels, cauliflower, sprouts, tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and fruits like peaches, bananas, pears, apricots, grapes and oranges can be a part of the menu for diabetics.
