Alcohol abuse has been the most devastating problem for most families. Today, the situation has worsened with adolescent alcoholic abuse. About half of the children populations, from grade school to high school levels, have been found to sample alcohol beverages in any month. Any responsible adult would surely catch hold of such a statistics and may start considering the situation.
Today, many illegal drugs are easily available even at grade school levels. Therefore, the report of an increase in adolescent alcoholic abuses may not shock many. Besides, unlike most street and prescription drugs, most parents have designed their own home bars. They often store a good variety of alcohol beverages but they are somewhat unaware of the fact that they are providing a way for making their kids prone to drinking habits.
Many of you must be aware of the ongoing drug culture in every school. But the real world problem lies in how low it can get. By the time children upgrade to middle schools, most of them already aware about most of the drugs and drinking options. Peer pleasure helps them in developing a desire to be ‘cool’ and experiment a variety of drug and drinking options. Drugs can scare a few kids but they consider alcohols as a legal, recreational, and socially sanctioned step forward towards adult privileges.
Many kids are unable to trace the difference between drugs and alcohols. They are only able to figure out that while drugs are illegal, alcohols are not. Another common factor that makes them more prone to alcohols is their thinking that ‘when my parents can drink, why shouldn’t I! These are among the many common causes responsible for keeping the number of adolescent alcohol abuses high.
This is more likely a passing trend. Kids are able get the sneak to alcohols right inside their homes. They don’t know that their physiological statuses are very uncommon from adults. They are required to realize that they need to maintain a moderate view upon all instances. Many parents don’t mind consuming mild drinks after lunch and dinners. While this may provide them a relaxing affect but they don’t have an idea that this adversely affects their kids. Kids tend to overdo these for achieving that ultimate experience and they know well that alcohols are capable of providing such an experience.
Hence, it is the duty of every parent to make their kids realize about the differences between moderate and abuse drinks. You must explain this by example, talk to your child and at dinner table simply confine yourself to just one glass of wine for the better good of your child.
In European countries, many families allow their children to have a few sips under special occasions. This may gives them a heady experience but also makes them realize that it is not some forbidden pleasure but is something connected with the enjoyment of foods. With such a sense, they are unlikely to enjoy or even indulge into it outside their homes.
Therefore, letting your child develop a sense that alcohols are something that categorize below secretive and forbidden pleasure makes them more prone to adolescent alcohol abuses. This allows their peers to easily make them believe that it is something they need to explore of their own irrespective of the examples set by their parents.
The above given points reflect the truth why adolescent alcohol or drug abuses have become the most widespread problem today. More striking fact about this is that it mainly prone to our children. Therefore, to prevent your child from getting abused to these habits do be clear and honest while you talk to them and please do make sure you talk to them.
