Aftershaves Have A New Face These Days

If you’re like most men, you probably highly dislike the task of shaving and wish you didn’t have to do it all. The main reason is due to the discomfort associated with shaving, along with the dryness and itchiness that some aftershaves leave behind. Fortunately, these days, there are many new aftershaves on the market that are capable of making the shaving experience more tolerable.

Ultimately, the objective of aftershave creams and lotions is to soothe and protect your skin after the somewhat harsh process of shaving. The problem is that sometimes the wrong product can cause more harm than good. If you have skin that is prone to acne, it’s not enough to just feel refreshed, you should choose a gentle aftershave that will leave your skin moisturized rather than dry and irritated. Many aftershaves on the market are alcohol-based and these should be avoided if you have sensitive or acne prone skin, because alcohol naturally saps the moisture from your skin cells. In addition to alcohol-based aftershaves, you may want to avoid aftershaves with the ingredient of menthol. While menthol may give you a refeshing feeling, like a cool breeze, it has been known to cause skin irritation in some people. If you decide to choose an aftershave that is alcohol free and menthol free, you will be left with a small amount of choices, but they will be your best bet for protection against sensitive and acne prone skin.

While the comfort of your aftershave is probably the most important factor to consider when selecting your aftershave, the scent of it also plays a huge role. Today there are more scents available than ever before and there will almost certainly available to your liking. It’s important to keep in mind, however, that you probably don’t want an aftershave that has an overpowering scent. Rather, in most cases it’s better to go with a pleasant, yet subtle scent. Also, aftershaves differ in their potency and the scent may last longer than others. Typically, aftershaves in the form of lotions or gels will have a longer lasting smell than their liquid counterparts. Scents such as vanilla, cedarwood and musk are usually rich and can last throughout the whole day. Before purchasing a new aftershave, if possible, it would be a wise idea to pick up a few samples of various types and test each one for a whole day. Remember, as with perfumes or colognes, how the aftershave smells at first, is not necessarily how it will smell at the end of the day, so keep that into consideration when making your selection.

Face it, shaving your face will probably never be an enjoyable experience. However, with the right aftershave, hopefully you will at least be able to get through your morning shave with less pain and be left with a more refreshing, better scent.
