Amiodarone Side Effects : Treating Heart Beat Irregularities and Associating Precautions

Amiodarone is used for treating heart beat irregularities in patient who are allergic or are unable to tolerate other drugs. It is specifically an antiarrhythmic drug that is used for treating irregularities in heart beat that causes death.

Since being used for treating life threatening conditions these must be followed under strict medical prescription or supervision. This drug comes with a leaflet from the drug manufacturer about further instructions regarding its doses. It is an oral drug form that best works when taken with food. However, once taken with food must be continued to be taken in the same format for ensuring better absorption else should be continued without food. Prohibit grape fruits or its juice while treating with Amiodarone.

This medicine provides better relief on being sufficient in amount. Hence, regular dose of this drug is very important. However, on missing any dose then take as soon you remember of it. If the next dose time closes in then better skip the missed one and continue with the regular dosing schedules. Avoid taking double doses for overdosing side effects. Common overdose symptoms include dizziness, fainting, weakness and slow pulse rate. Under these conditions the patient should immediately seek for urgent medical attention.

Avoid using these drugs if you are allergic to any ingredient related to Amiodarone. These drugs are also prohibited under conditions of complete, second or third degree severe sinoatrial heart blockages. The same is also prevalent under conditions of slower pulse rate, shock caused by serious heart issues or fainting due to heart irregularities. These drugs are also prohibited to be combined with certain other drugs and should be consulted with the doctor if any other medical condition requires you doing the same.

During pregnancy or while planning for the same or while nursing an infant you must consult your doctor for determining the best health of your developing child or the nursing infant. Having a medical history of heart, lungs, liver, eye, electrolyte or thyroid problems or conditions relating to heart issues or sinoatrial heart blockages should be consulted with the doctor for ensuring safer treatment. It is also better to inform your doctor if undergoing any surgical procedures or have defibrillator or pacemaker implants.

There are numerous side effects associated with this drug and the most common ones include abnormal skin irritation, discoloration of skin, bitter taste, decreased sexual interest, constipation, involuntary muscle movement, poor coordination, nausea, appetite issues, headaches and general body discomforts. There are many other allergic reactions associating the drug. These symptoms cannot be anticipated and are should be issued to the doctor immediately for further complications.
