Recent researches in the field of food and beverages show that proper intake of antioxidants can give us a healthy skin. These antioxidants are capable of capturing free radicals and prevent skin diseases & allergies.
According to Dr. Susan M. Kleiner who is a Seattle-based nutritionist, antioxidant rich foods is best for human skin. Our body assimilates them far better than in supplement form. As per instructions given in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Guide Pyramid, Dr. Kleiner suggests us to include fresh fruits and vegetables in our daily diet.
Citrus fruits like orange, tangerine or grapefruit contain vitamin C that is good for a glowing complexion. Eat at least two citrus or leafy green vegetables everyday in order to increase beta-carotene intake.
A well-balanced diet leads to younger looking skin. Orange juice and raw carrots provide essential nutrients like vitamin C and beta-carotene that are necessary for a healthy body as well as a healthy skin. Dry fruits, seeds including their oils provide essential elements for the growth and vitality of a healthy skin. Antioxidant nutrients comprise vitamins C & E and beta-carotene that are good sources energy to boost healthy mind and body. Use olive and canola oil in place of butter or margarine for cooking food. Orange, green leafy vegetables, yellow vegetables including broccoli are good sources of beta-carotene. Avoid prepackaged foods as these are only meant for the taste of mouth and lack essential ingredients that aid in the growth of a glowing skin.
Cosmetics containing antioxidants are less effective than antioxidant rich foods.Proper skin care, a healthy diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep and sufficient amounts of water help in rejuvenating our body cells and give us a glowing complexion.
