Atenolol Side Effects: Precautions to Effectively Use Beta Blocker for Treating Heart Strokes

Tenormin, also known as beta blocker, is used for treating heart strokes, angina pectoris and high blood pressure. This beta blocker drug is used for reducing the rate and force of heart contractions. It can be either used alone or in combination with other drugs such as thiazide water pills for treating high blood pressure. Besides, it can be also prescribed for treating migraine headaches, anxiety bouts and alcohol withdrawals.

The prescribed doses can be taken either with food or in empty stomach. Do not discontinue this drug even if the symptoms disappear. The prescribed doses may vary depending upon the symptoms and age. Normal dosing schedule comprises of a single dose per day. Try consuming this drug on a regular basis and as per prescription rules as any irregularities could result into more worsening of the ongoing condition. If you miss any dose then consider consuming it as soon you remember it. But if the next dose time falls within 8 hours then it is recommended to skip it and continue the regular schedule.

Never double its doses as this condition could result in severe complications. The overdosing symptoms may include low blood sugar or pressure, constricted airways, slow heart beat rate, congestive heart beat failures, wheezing or sluggishness. There are also certain side effects that are usually unpredictable. Therefore, any change or on developing any intensity should be referred to the doctor immediately. The common side effects include nausea, fatigue, dizziness and slow heart beat rate.

For treating high blood pressure, this drug requires to be consumed regularly. The blood pressure declines gradually and it may take time to provide full relieves. The patient requires continuing the doses even after recovering as this drug do not treat the high blood pressure but only helps in keeping it well under control.

If the patient suffers any heart complications such as heart blockages, extremely slow heart beat rate or inadequate blood supplies to the circulatory system then one should avoid treating with this drug. Also if you are allergic to any of its ingredients or any other forms then also this drug should be avoided. Consuming Tenormin during pregnancy can affect the developing baby. Hence if you are pregnant or planning for the same then you should consult or inform the doctor immediately. It also appears in the breast milk and therefore, nursing women should essentially consult the doctor for either discontinuing the treatment or breastfeeding which may seem to be more beneficial.

Tenormin drugs are generally recommended to be stored at room temperature and away from direct light, moisture and heat.
