Biaxin Side Effects : Treating Bacterial Infections and Safety Precautions

Biaxin is an antibiotic that chemically relates erythromycin. It is used for treating the bacterial infections concerning respiratory tracts which include Pneumonia, Tonsillitis (inflame tonsils), step throat, Sinusitis (inflame sinusitis), acute chronic bronchitis flare-ups (inflamed airways) and acute middle ear infection. Biaxin drug is also used for treating many types of skin irritations and ulcers close to the exit of the stomach which is mainly caused due to H. Pylon bacteria. It is also prescribed for HIV positive individuals for dealing the infections of Mycobacterium avium.

These drugs are available in suspension and tablets forms along with extended release forms. The extended version, known as Biaxin XL, is specifically used for treating bronchitis flare ups and sinus inflammations. Common Biaxin drug forms can be taken either without or with foods while the extended release tablets must be consumed with food. The Biaxin suspension form drugs should be shaken well before use and consumed within a period of 14 days. The Biaxin tablets should not be crushed or chewed but must be wholly swallowed. These drugs should be strictly consumed as per prescription and for the entire treatment course.

On missing any Biaxin doses the missed dose should be taken as soon you remember of it. If the next dose time closes in then consider consuming the missed dose first and then consider taking the next dose after 5-6 hours. Then continue with your regular schedule. Under overdose conditions this drug could pose serious threats and hence medical help should be attained immediately for avoiding and better treating the complications. The common overdosing symptoms include the vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain.

There are several side effects associated with the use of Biaxin drugs forms. If the patient experiences any change in the intensity then should immediately consult the matter with the doctor. The common side affect symptoms include rashes, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pains and abnormal tastes. In contrary, the Biaxin XL side effects are quite milder than the regular Biaxin forms. These normally include the nausea, diarrhea and abnormal taste.

Avoid taking these drugs while being allergic to these or erythromycin and other similar drug or antibiotics. Also, prohibit its usage if you suffer any heat complications or any imbalance in minerals and water levels of the body. Consult your doctor well if you suffer any kidney issues and under many similar conditions you can either be prescribed for smaller doses of Biaxin. These drugs can cause you kidney inflammation.

These drugs could also cause you severe life-threatening situations including the conditions of mild diarrhea or pseudomembranous colitis. These symptoms usually disappear when the body becomes used to it. In case you suffer prolonged and severe diarrhea conditions then consult your doctor for ensuring the continuity of this drug. Also, this drug should be never combined with other drugs or medications under any condition and the doctor must be essentially consulted before getting treated for any other condition.

Under pregnancy cases or while planning for the same you need to consult your doctor first. These drugs are known to cause certain side-effects to the developing child and must be consumed only when there’s no other alternative. Nursing women should also be cautious as these drugs, along with erythromycin, appear in the breast milk and could well harm the nursing infant.

Biaxin drugs are recommended to be stored at room temperature and away from direct heat and moist. Also, consider storing them in air tight containers and the suspension forms should be never refrigerated.
