Bone Spur Cause and Home Remedies

Bone spur is the condition in which an additional bone emerges out from the normal bone particularly in the joint area like hip, spines, feet, knees, shoulders, hands etc. Bone spur is very common among old age people and it might be the indication for spine degeneration. Bone spur is medically known as osteophytes. This often does not causes pain, but at times when it presses against the normal bone, muscle or nerves.
Causes:
- Aging process
- Excess pressure on bones due to severe works
- Obesity
- Osteoarthritis condition
- Injuries
- Poor diet
- Lifestyle habits
- Wearing uncomfortable shoes
Symptoms:
- Pain in the spot where the extra bone grows.
- Numbness and tingling of the joint.
- Compression of the nerves.
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Headaches
Home remedies:
- Ice pack or hot pack can be applied 4 to 5 times a day on the affected area.
- Roast some hard salt in a pan and tie it in a cotton cloth dip it in hot water and keep it on the bone spur part as many times as possible. This will soothe the pain and reduce inflammation.
- Intake of yellow pigment of turmeric on empty stomach three times a day will be an effective remedy for bone spur.
- Heat some linseed oil till it becomes warm and dip a cheese cloth in it. Cover this cloth with plastic and keep a heating pad over this for two hours. Apply this pack on the bone spur area for fast relief.
- Plan to give adequate rest to the affected region.
- Practise some exercises like yoga, Pranayama and stretching exercises to keep the bones and muscles fit and healthy.
- Oil massaging also will help to reduce pain in the spot.
- Do not wear high heeled footwear.
- Avoid standing for the long time.
- Dip the wrapping paper in apple cider vinegar and place it in the affected part.
- You can take anti-inflammatory drugs under the advice of your doctor.
- It is advisable to wear heel splints to bed to give better support to the feet while sleeping.
- Take alternative hot water and cold water baths many times to get relief from bone spur.
- If you have to wear heeled footwear then remember to wear heel cups for best support for your feet.
- Herbal tea made with Rose hip and horsetail can be taken twice a day for effective healing.
- You can also bathe your joints with chamomile tea to reduce pain.
- Calcium and magnesium supplements can be taken to prevent bone spurs.
- Eat nutritious diet regularly for complete body health to get rid of bone spurs.
