Breaking the Acne Myths

There are a lot of myths and theories regarding acne. A lot of prevailing myths still prevent a lot of people from healing. Some myths about acne have some degree of truth but the others are still just misleading. A good look into these myths and some useful advice will help in understanding acne better.

The most common misconception about acne is that it is believed to be caused due to poor health. This forces many people to wash their hands frequently and by rubbing it roughly. However, the accumulated dust, skin oils and dead skins are not easily visible but they do not cause acne. Washing your hands frequently and roughly may irritate the skin and make the case even worst. For keeping your hands clean you simply need to wash your hand and dry it by patting with soft towel.

Another popular myth about acne is that it is caused due to certain foods. The truth here is that there’s no connection between acne and foods. However some foods can increase its suffering on an affected person but there is no such food that specifically causes acne. A well balanced diet supports every health issues and acne sufferers should also therefore maintain a healthy diet. But the myth stating a connection between acne and related foods is not true.

Cosmetics are also considered a cause for aggregating acne problem. Since most of these cosmetics are tested these do not threat any minor or major side effects.  However, acne sufferers should prohibit using any cosmetics that may further increase the suffering. Since skin sensitivity differs among different people the cosmetics being used must be chosen carefully.  But the truth is that there’s no specific cosmetic that threats to cause acne problem.

A major acne advice suggests that pregnant women should avoid acne medications. There are certain potent medications that must be avoided at all costs. These medications may harm the developing fetus. For instance hormonal therapy should not be administered one month before pregnancy. The same also applies for retinoid and isotretinoin. These can lead to serious birth defects to the fetus. Women under these medications must take two popular measures for avoiding pregnancy.

Some myths are true while some are just misleading. The need is to acquire as much information as possible that may prevent us from following misconceptions. The advices and suggestions provided by our health consultants must be duly followed to avoid severe complications. Therefore it is important for us to remember that some myths do contain some truth and care must taken while treating acne for effective and quick relieves.
