Causes and Home Remedies for Plantar Fascitis

Plantar fascia or plantar fascitis is the condition in which the heel becomes painful. Plantar fascia or heel bone is a ling fibrous band ligament at the bottom of the foot and this tissue at times tears due to several reasons and source severe pain and inflammation.

Causes:

Some of the major sources for plantar fascitis are:

  1. Over weight
  2. Diabetes
  3. Excess pressure on foot due to overloading
  4. Old age
  5. Wearing improper footwear
  6. Any form of traumatic injuries
  7. Heavy or excess sports
  8. Arthritis
  9. Pregnancy in women

Symptoms:

Some of the vital signs of plantar fascitis are:

  1. Burning and stabbing pain in the heel
  2. Stiffness and severe pain in the heel particularly in the morning time

Home remedies:

Home remedies for plantar fascitis are very simple to process and are effective.

  1. Eat well balanced nutritious diet in small quantities at frequent intervals. This will help you to maintain body weight and get rid of obesity problems. Thus your heel will be healthy and fit.
  2. Practise some regular exercises to make your heel strong and flexible. Take care not to over do the exercises as it will lead to severe injuries. Some stretching exercises like calf stretches and towel stretches can be done gently to reduce stiffness in plantar fascia.
  3. Give adequate rest to your body through a good night sleep for at least 8 hours a day. This will facilitate your body to mend and refresh itself for next day chores.
  4. Avoid high heeled shoes to get relief from plantar fascitis. It is always best to wear comfortable cushioned shoes with arch support to reduce pressure on the plantar fascia. Heel cup can also be used to avoid plantar fascists.
  5. Apply cold packs at the affected areas to get good relief. This can be done many times to reduce the pain.
  6. Do not strain your foot until you get heal from plantar fascitis. Avoid running, jumping or lifting heavy weights when you are affected by plantar fascitis.
  7. To reduce inflammation due to plantar fascia it is advisable to include ginger, garlic, turmeric and cloves in your everyday diet. These stuffs have anti-inflammatory qualities that will facilitate you to cure plantar fascitis inflammation.
  8. Massage can be given to the plantar fascia using fish oil. The omega 3 fatty acid in this oil acts as an excellent anti-inflammatory agent and reduces pain.
  9. Supplements of omega 3 fatty acid also can be taken regularly to give strength to the plantar fascia.
  10. Tea tree herbal oil can also be used to massage the affected part. This will give quick relief from pain.
