Causes and Home Remedies For Psoriasis

Psoriasis is referred to the inflammatory condition of the skin. This is said to be chronic disease that enhances skin cells to grow very rapidly. Psoriasis will give a red and thickened skin appearance with scales developed particularly in the areas of elbows, knees, scalp, trunk, behind ears, underarms and genital areas. This chronic disease is common in both men and women around the age of 15 to 30. Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin infection that is mainly classified into five types namely plague psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, pustular psoriasis, inverse psoriasis and erythrodermic psoriasis.

The main causes of psoriasis are:

  1. Poor immune system
  2. Hereditary factors
  3. Climatic conditions
  4. Skin damages
  5. Germ infection
  6. Abnormality in skin growth mechanism
  7. Some drugs
  8. Abnormality with the metabolism of amino acids
  9. Excess stress
  10. Physical strains
  11. Drinking excess alcohol
  12. Obesity
  13. Anxiety
  14. Sunburns

Symptoms:

The chief signs and indication of psoriasis are:

  1. Redness of the skin
  2. Skin irritations
  3. Silvery scale appearance on the skin
  4. Itching of the skin

Remedies:

  1. Apply Aloe Vera gel with garlic oil on the infected skin to soothe itching and get relief from psoriasis.
  2. Vitamin E oil can be applied on the affected parts or can be taken in capsule form to reduce the effect of psoriasis.
  3. Compresses made by using cabbage leaves can be coated on the affected areas. This will be another excellent home remedy for psoriasis.
  4. You can apply olive oil on the affected skin and take hot Epsom salt bath to treat psoriasis.
  5. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. This will pave way for better metabolism and gives you a healthy body.
  6. Avoid spicy and salty foods. This will tend to increase irritation.
  7. Use a medicated soap to avoid severe pain resulting from psoriasis.
  8. Bitter gourd and drumstick are very helpful in removing body toxins and give better relief from psoriasis.
  9. Cord liver oil, lecithin, linseed oil also can be taken with daily meals to encourage fast cure from psoriasis.
  10. Buttermilk compresses can be applied over the affected skin to treat psoriasis.
  11. Apply avocado oil directly on the infected parts to reduce itching of the skin.
  12. Make use of good moisturizers to lubricate and soften scalyness of the skin.
  13. Avoid caffeine, animal fat and other processed foods.
  14. It is not fair to scratch or rub patches of the infected skin.
  15. Maintain a clean and hygienic skin.
  16. Drink one glass of lemon juice on empty stomach daily for better relief from psoriasis.
  17. Mud packs can be made using Fuller earth and water and this paste can be applied over the skin.
  18. Washing the affected areas with sea water can be helpful to cure psoriasis.
  19. For cleaning hair you can use a paste of marigold heads and then rinse your hair with lemon juice.
  20. Mix equal proportions of wheat germ oil and castor oil and apply all over the body and take hot water bath. This will be very effective method to treat psoriasis.
