Causes and Home Remedies for Snoring

Snoring is a sleeping disorder, which not only disturbs the sufferers but also the person surrounding him. A sound sleep is the major source for a healthy living and this is affected due to various physical and environmental factors resulting in snoring. Snoring is a sound breathing during sleep.

Causes:

  1. Bad sleeping positions
  2. Hereditary factors
  3. Cardiac problems
  4. Throat infection
  5. Smoking
  6. Alcohol abuse
  7. Weakened throat muscles
  8. Certain drugs
  9. Physical exhaustion
  10. Blockage of air passages
  11. Additional tissues in the palate and uvula
  12. Old age
  13. Stress
  14. Obesity

Symptoms:

  1. Low to high pitch sounds while sleeping
  2. Heavy breathing
  3. Obstructed breathing
  4. Disturbed sleep

Remedies:

  1. The excellent way to stop snoring is to maintain proper body weight. For this you have to eat nutritious well balanced diet of permitted proportions. Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts and pulses in your food. Drink plenty of water. This will make your fit and strong.
  2. Avoid smoking and alcohol as they will increase the risk of snoring by congesting the air cavities.
  3. Sleep in different positions and avoid sleeping with your back. Sleep with your sides for trouble free breathing.
  4. You should follow regular sleep timings to avoid snoring.
  5. Olive oil can be taken before going to sleep as this will reduce snoring.
  6. Have supper before two hours to sleep and also avoid heavy oily foods during night to get rid of snoring.
  7. Some herbs like passion flower, peppermint leaves and valerian root can be used to get excellent remedies from snoring.
  8. Try to do some regular exercises to keep your body strong and active. This will maintain your body weight and release you from snoring.
  9. Spray Marjoram oil in your bedroom. The fragrance of this oil will prevent snoring.
  10. Train your tongue to be in proper position while sleeping and you can also practise singing to get rid of snoring problem.
  11. Use proper pillows to keep your neck straight and comfortable to reduce snoring.
  12. Elevate the height of your head and torso as required to stop snoring.
  13. When you suffer from sinus allergies take appropriate medication to clear nasal areas to stop snoring.
  14. You can use nasal strips or nasal sprays when sleeping.
  15. Practise proper breathing exercises by closing one nostril and breathing through the other and vice versa. This will help you to clear air cavities and prevent snoring.
  16. Keep your mind free from stress to get good night sleep. You can do meditation to get rid of mental tensions and to quit snoring.
  17. Keep track of your medications as they might cause snoring and in this regard consult your doctor to suggest alternating drugs.
