Causes and Home Remedies For Sore Throat

Sore throat is a condition in which the throat gets infected and irritated due to various physical and environmental factors. This condition can be due to viral or bacterial infection and most common in children. Sore throat is also referred as tonsillitis. A sore throat is a minor infection and it should be treated immediately to avoid serious illnesses.

Symptoms:
- Throat irritation
- Chills and fever
- Throat pain
- Swollen lymph glands
- Difficulty in swallowing and chewing
- Laryngitis
- Severe cold
- Body pain
- Swelling in the neck region
- Stomach ache
- Headaches
Remedies:
- Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight and gargle with this water the next morning to clear sore throat.
- Cinnamon also can be used to cure sore throat. Take a glass of warm water and add two tsp of pepper and cinnamon powder into it. Drink this mixture everyday until the throat gets clear.
- Boil some Tulsi leaves in water and allow it to reduce in quantity. Filter this and drink this to treat sore throat.
- Boil some plain tea leaves in water and drain the solution. Drink this or gargle with this to get rid of sore throat.
- Extract juice from bark of mango tree and add it to lukewarm water and use this for gargling.
- Tamarind is one of the excellent remedy for sore throat. Soak a hand full of tamarind in two cups of water and drain it. Gargle with this daily to clear sore throat.
- A hot Epsom salt bath can be taken to release sore throat.
- You can add some common salt to water and gargle this for a week to avoid sore throat.
- Chew some cloves of garlic with honey to release sore throat.
- A mixture made by using apple cider vinegar, some honey, cayenne pepper powder and lemon can be add to one cup of hot water and drink this for some days to get throat relief.
- Onion can be soaked in honey and swallow this thrice a day for quick throat relief.
- Aloe Vera juice can be gargled twice daily. This is a wonderful way to release sore throat.
- Some herbs like marshmallow root, honeysuckle, sage, liquorice, Kamtakari, Henna, Bishop’s weed, Belleric Myroblan, Liquorice can be used in form of decoction and can be gargled with to treat sore throat.
- Eat nutritious food that is rich with fruits and vegetables. This will keep your throat fit and free from infections.
- Avoid getting common cold and flu during cold climates. For this you can drink something warm like chamomile tea and avoid breathing dry air. You can use humidifier to add moisture to the air.
- Ginger is also a best medicine for sore throat. You can mix ginger juice with honey and drink it for better throat.
- Garlic also have antiviral qualities and can be eaten raw everyday.
- Avoid head baths during sore throat and avoid cold foods like cucumber, watermelons and ice creams.
- Include pepper in your diet and stay away from oily food items.
- You can take warm water enema in serious throat conditions. A wet pack also can be applied to the throat at regular time intervals for better relief.
