Causes and Home Treatment for Fever

A general increase in the body temperature is usually referred to as a fever. This is normal method in which the body will react to some kind of upcoming disease. A fever is usually a side effect of some kind of major or minor disease, which affects the body. The main reason for people falling sick is the bacteria or viruses, which affect the body. The immune system will fight and destroy all these organisms and the temperature in the body rises due to these reasons. A fever is normally the indication of the presence of some kind of bacteria or virus inside the body. The normal body temperature is 98.7 F or 370C. A fever occurs when the body temperature increases beyond these limits.

Causes of Fever :

  • Attack on the body by microorganisms
  • Age
  • Unhealthy and ill balanced diet
  • Surrounding environment
  • Over consumption of alcohol
  • Chain-smoking
  • Severe stress

Treatment of Fever :

Extra care and precaution should be taken to ensure that the body is kept continuously hydrated during a fever. This is especially important in the case of a heat stroke. Enough water and fluids should be consumed at regular intervals in order to keep the body hydrated. A minimum of ten glasses of water should be consumed in a day. If the fever is a side effect of a cold or flu, the water will help in flushing out all the toxins, which are present in the body.

Home Treatments for Fever :

  • The body can be steamed using water, which has some poppy seeds. This will make the person sweat and also reduce his body temperature.
  • Tulsi leaves should be boiled with two cups of water and consumed along with a drop of honey. Some cardamom can also be mixed in this. This is one of the most effective remedies in curing a fever
  • Two to three dry roasted fenugreek seeds should be first powdered and then boiled along with water. The water should then be strained and a drop of ghee should be added to it.
  • One spoon of linden flower should be boiled along with one cup of water and consumed when it is hot.
  • Willow bark tea should be prepared and consumed when it is hot. Black elder can also be used


Ayurvedic Treatment for Fever :

According to Ayurveda, fever can be treated by following these five simple steps:

  • Fasting langana – This will help in providing more strength to the digestive system and it will clean up all the digestive channels. Liquid foods like vegetable soups and ginger water can be consumed
  • Sweating swedana – A simple spicy tea can make the body sweat in order to increase the body temperature and clear all the toxins which are present in the body
  • Patience – kala
  • Light diet vavagu – Once the normal body temperature has been reached, three meals which contain fresh fruits and vegetables can be consumed
  • Bitter drugs tikta bheshajam – This will help in increasing the count of white blood cells and this will also help the body in fighting infections
  • Detoxification Ama Panchana – This will make the body stronger and also provide the strength to fight a fever in the future.
