Celexa is used for treating major depression issues. The depression issues indicate to a low mood state which persists to stay everyday for at least 2 weeks and interrupts your daily schedule. It works by boosting the serotonin levels in the brain that is an important chemical messenger of the nervous system responsible for elevating the mood.
The most common symptoms of depressions are loss of interest in usual activities, excessive sleeping or insomnia, change in appetite or weight, slowdown in movements or consistent fidgeting, feeling guilt or worthlessness, fatigue, difficulty in concentrating or thinking and repeated suicidal thoughts.
This antidepressant drug is available in both tablet and liquid forms. It should be consumed once per day with or without food. Although it takes some time for lifting the depression effects and hence this drug should be considered to be consumed on a regular basis. However, it may even take several months for this drug to reveal their full effects. The daily doses may differ according to the symptoms and severity of the depression and age. For older adults and adults are recommended a daily dose of 20 milligrams of Celexa solutions everyday. The doses must not exceed more than 40 milligrams for each day.
On missing any dose consider taking the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it’s almost time for the next dose then consider skipping the missed dose and continue with the regular doses. Never double your dose for avoiding overdosing complications. On suspecting any overdose symptoms consider seeking medical help immediately. The common overdosing symptoms include hyperventilation, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, purple or bluish discoloration of skin, amnesia, convulsions, confusions, coma, tremor, sweating, vomiting and rapid heartbeat.
There are several side effects associated with Celexa which cannot be anticipated. Therefore, any change in the intensity levels must be immediately consulted with the doctor. Some of the other common side effects of Celexa include abdominal pains, diarrhea, dry mouths, ejaculation disorders, anxiety, agitation, indigestion, impotence, infections of respiratory tracts, painful menstruation periods and nasal or sinus inflammation. Also, it is strongly prohibited to combine or mix Celexa with other drugs and especially with MAO inhibitors.
The effects of Celexa have not been adequately studied concerning pregnancy. Hence, any pregnancy condition or plans must be consulted with the doctor first. Celexa does appear in the breast milk and could harm the nursing infant. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult the doctor for either discontinuing breastfeeding or treatment whichever may be more beneficial.
This drug should be considered to be stored at room temperature and away from direct heat and moist.
