Catapres is generally prescribed for treating the high blood pressures. It may be prescribed alone or in combination with other medications. Besides, this drug can also be prescribed for smoking cessation programs, withdrawing nicotine, alcohols or benzodiazepine, migraines or headaches, Tourette’s syndrome, methadone detoxification, diabetic diarrhea and premenstrual menstruation.

This drug should be taken on a regular schedule and should not be withdrawn even upon relieving the symptoms. Withdrawing the drug suddenly or without the doctor’s consultance can worsen the condition. Catapres – TTS patches are placed on a clean hairless area on the chest or outer arm. If it loosens then should be put back to its place with help of bandage or adhesive. Usually, a new patch is applied after every 7 days. If any of its doses gets missed then simply skip it and continue patching with the regular schedules. In case, you forget any patch for more than 2 times or if you miss to change the transdermal patch for 3 or more days then should consider consulting the doctor before continuing the regular patching schedules.

Under severe high blood pressure conditions you require to use the Catapres regularly for treating it effectively. The high blood pressure usually declines on a gradual basis and hence it may take weeks before gaining this drug’s full benefits. Also, a patient must continue taking it even after gaining the relief as it does not cures the condition but rather keeps it in control.

This drug should be avoided for those who are allergic to Catapres or any of its relating components or ingredients. It also posses certain side effects which are generally unpredictable. Therefore, upon any change or developing any new intensity should be consulted with the doctor immediately. Common side effect symptoms generally include drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, agitation, impotence, fatigue, dry mouths, sedation, nervousness, nausea, weakness, vomiting or loosing of sexual drive.

This drug’s effects during pregnancy haven’t been adequately studied. Therefore on being pregnant or having similar plans should inform and consult the doctor immediately. Catapres drug could also appear in breast milk and well affect a nursing infant. Consult your doctor for verifying either discontinuing the treatment or breastfeeding whichever may seem more benefiting.

General drug recommendation of these drugs suggests them for being stored at room temperature and away from direct heat and moisture.
