Coreg Side Effects

Coreg drugs are prescribed for lowering the high blood pressure and increasing the heart outputs. It is generally prescribed for treating patients suffering congestive heart failures for incrementing the survival chances thereby reducing the chances of hospitalization. This is also prescribed for patients having suffered heart strokes or from left ventricular dysfunction where the heart’s left hemisphere does pumps properly. Under many conditions it may also be prescribed for controlling the high blood pressures and could be prescribed with other drugs also.

This drug’s general prescription provides for a single dose along with food. Its extended release version called the Coreg CR is usually prescribed to be taken with food in the morning. This drug is not recommended to be chewed, crushed or broken into equal halves. Consuming alcohols within 2 hours of taking the drug is strongly prohibited.

If any of its doses gets missed then consider taking it as soon you remember it. But if the next dose schedule closes in then better skip it and continue with the regular schedules. Also, never double its doses for avoiding the overdosing complications. Overdosing symptoms may include heart problems, slow heart beat rate, loosing of consciousness, breathing difficulties, excessive low blood pressures and vomiting. Upon experiencing any of these symptoms then it should immediately referred to the doctor.

This drug does posses certain side affects which are generally unpredictable. Therefore, upon any change or developing any new intensity should be urgently referred to the doctor. Common side effects of this drug include dizziness, drowsiness, bronchitis, back pain, anemia, headaches, increased blood sugar levels, lung fluids, high cholesterol levels, joint pain, sinus or breathing problems, upper respiratory infection, swelling, weakness, vision changes, wheezing or weight gains.

Treating with Coreg must be avoided if the patient suffers from serious heart or liver complications or asthma. Also this drug should be avoided if the patient is allergic to any of its ingredients. Coreg can also result in a sudden drop of blood pressure where they first stand. This may cause the patient suffer fainting or dizziness. On experiencing any of these conditions the patient should either lie down or must consult the doctor immediately. Consuming it with food can reduce some of its side effects. However, the patient must also be cautious during the first month of the treatment or while changing the doses as accidents could take place.

The affects of Coreg during pregnancy are not yet clear and also not been studied adequately. Therefore, pregnant women or those with similar plans should consider the doctor urgently. This could also appear in the breast milk; hence nursing women should consult the doctor for either discontinuing the treatment or breastfeeding whichever may seem more beneficial.

General recommendations of this drug suggest storing it in a tightly closed container at room temperature. Also these should be protected from direct heat, light and moisture.
