Coudamin, an anticoagulant, is generally prescribed for preventing the following conditions –

  1. For treating or preventing the formation of blood clots within the lungs or blood vessels.
  2. Treating or preventing blood clots associating replacement of heart valves or several heart conditions.
  3. Prevents the formation of blood clots that form especially after a heart stroke.

On an overall basis it reduces death risk after heart stroke and chances of another attack.

The primary objective of using a blood thinner is for controlling the process of blood clotting without causing the risk of severe bleeding. This prevents the formation of blood clots which cuts off the blood supply required for normal functioning of the body. Therefore, it is very necessary to consume its dosages as per prescription rules and do take care to be under regular check ups for proper conduction of the treatment. As such effective treatment largely depends upon proper communication and cooperation between the doctor and his patient.

If any of its doses gets missed then consider taking it as soon you remember it. If the missed dose time passes over to the next day then skip the missed dose and never try doubling your doses. Also, it will be much better to consult your doctor for how to adjust the missed doses.

Avoid discontinuing the medication unless directed by your doctor. Also, avoid using it in combination with salicylates such as aspirins, alcohols, consuming more of foods containing vitamin K or any sudden change in the diet. Doing so could even reverse the effect of Coudamin and affect the treatment in an adverse manner. Also, this drug turns the urine color quite often to reddish orange.

There are also certain side effects of this drug that are not predictable. Therefore, upon any change or developing any new intensity should be immediately consulted with the doctor. Common side effects relating to this drug generally include signs of severe bleeding that result in the loss of excessive bloods extent and location of bleeding. Other symptoms include difficulty in swallowing or breathing, pain in abdomen, chest, muscle, joints, headaches, dizziness, low blood pressure, tingling or numbness; breathe shortness, paralysis or unexplained weakness, swelling and shock.

Besides, this drug also associates certain other major issues that often threat death. One of its primary side effects results in Hemorrhage under any organ or tissue and not so frequently gangrene or destruction of skin tissue cells. The risk of hemorrhage often relates the length of treatment or upon the amount of dosage. Hemorrhage along with necrosis has been reported to result in permanent disability or even permanent death.  Severe cases of necrosis often lead to the removal of amputation of a limb or removal of damaged tissues. It primarily appears to associate the blood clots in the damaged tissue area and occurs within a few days of starting the treatment with Coudamin.

Pregnant women should strictly avoid consuming this drug as doing so can cause you severe hemorrhage symptoms in the developing baby. There have been cases where retarded growth in new born babies, low birth weight and birth malformations been reported in women treating with Coudamin during pregnancy. There are also several cases where stillbirths and spontaneous abortions occur. Coudamin is also found in breast milk and therefore nursing women should get their babies checked for abnormalities before either discontinuing the treatment or breastfeeding whichever may seem more beneficial.

General recommendations regarding this drug suggest storing it inside a tightly closed container at room temperature and away from direct heat, light and moisture.
