Depression In Women

Hale and hearty parents will be in a good position to raise a healthy child. The impact of the mother on the life and the development of the child are great. This makes it all the more important for mothers to have a good mental state of mind. But there are many women who suffer from sever bouts of depression. This is one of the most common womens issues which are being faced by a lot of women all over the world today. Many environmental factors, sociological factors as well as biological factors, which are responsible for this womens issue, which is known as depression. This is the reason why women are more susceptible to depression when compared to men.

The reproductive system in a woman goes through many stages like the monthly menstrual cycle, pregnancy, post pregnancy, infertility and also menopause. These are some of the biological factors, which are responsible for the onset of depression in women. There are many psychological factors, which are responsible for depression like personality traits, physical, mental or sexual abuse. There are many women who go through depression during the initial stages of their married life due to the many new changes and adjustments, which need to be made in their lives.

Taking care of parents as well as the upbringing of children is two of the major responsibilities in the life of any woman. But today many women have joined the workforce and it has become more difficult to adjust the delicate balance between family and career. Women who are housewives suddenly find that they are completely lonely once the children start going to school or once they get old and their children have left home due to their own jobs and families. They begin to feel that no one understands their feelings and those who have drifted apart from their husbands due to the commitments of children find themselves even more lonely.

There are many women who go through the womens issue of post-partum depression after giving birth to a child. The sudden hormonal changes, which take place in the body, will have an impact on the mental make-up of the person. Women face a lot of mood swings, which are known as baby blues in the second day after the birth of the child. They will feel both happy and sad at the same time. This is a period, which will last for two weeks after the birth of the child, and this does not require any kind of medication or treatment. Meeting other new mothers could provide some relief during this time period.

Post partum depression is a phase, which could even last for a few months after the birth of the child. This is a much more adverse condition than baby blues and this could even last for a year after the birth of the baby. This is a condition, which will require some kind of medication, and this condition is also likely to recur on the birth of the second child.
