Detrol is a powerful drug used for treating overactive bladder symptoms that include urgency (increased urge for urination) and urge incontinence (loosing to control urination). Detrol works by blocking the nerve impulses that cause bladder contractions.
These drug capsules are to be swallowed wholly with or without food. The regular Detrol drug doses are specifically recommended at 2 milligrams twice per day. According to the symptoms, the doctor may reduce its dose to 1 milligram and this is also compulsory if the patient suffers from liver diseases. The Detrol LA capsules are generally recommended at 4 milligrams per day. This could be reduced to 2 milligrams per day.
On missing a dose of Detrol consider taking it as soon as you remember it. If the time for next dose closes in then better skip the missed one and better continue with the regular schedule. Avoid taking two doses in a single time. In case of experiencing the symptoms of overdoses, better consider attaining medical help immediately. The overdosing symptoms generally include drowsiness, blurred vision, dry eyes, constipation and dry mouths.
There are several side effects associated with Detrol and often these cannot be anticipated. The common side effects of Detrol include diarrhea, abdominal pain, blurred vision, constipation, dry mouths, dizziness, fatigue, abdominal pains, drowsiness, vertigo, indigestion, symptoms of flu and headache. Since this drug can cause blurriness in the vision hence care is needed while driving or doing other sensitive tasks. This drug is also not recommended to those who are prone to allergic reactions and uncontrolled narrow angle glaucoma, gastric & urinary retention.
This drug is strongly prohibited to be combined with other drugs. If compulsory this should be done in accordance to your doctor’s consultance. Also Detrol should be used with caution in case you are suffering from digestive disorders or bladder obstruction as this can well lead to complete blockage. Similarly, this is equally prevalent if you have suffered kidney or liver problems or been successfully treated for glaucoma symptoms.
The effects of Detrol during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you find that you are pregnant or plan for the similar then it is strongly recommended to consult your doctor before making any proceedings. It is also not properly researched whether this reaches the breast milk or not. However, nursing women should consult the doctor if they require being prescribed for the Detrol.
Detrol drugs are recommended to be stored at room temperature and away from moisture and direct heat.
