The tonsils are fleshy lumps of tissue, which are found on both sides of the mouth over and behind the tongue as well as the back of the throat. The main function, which is performed by these tonsils is that, it will absorb all the germs, which will enter the throat before they can scatter themselves all around the mouth and cause some kind of infection inside the mouth, throat as well as the sinuses. Cells and antibodies, which are capable of fighting infection, are found inside the tonsils and they can prevent the rest of the mouth from getting infected.
Causes of Tonsillitis :
Tonsils are present in the form of lymph nodes both at the back of the mouth as well as the throat. They provide a curtain against all the bacteria and the microorganisms, which can infect the rest of the body. Viruses or bacteria, which will infect the tonsils, are one of the main reasons for the occurrence of tonsillitis. They will make the tonsils completely swollen. Streptococcus is the main bacterium, which is responsible for the occurrence of tonsillitis. Tonsillitis, which has been caused by bacteria, can be treated using antibiotics, but it cannot be used to treat tonsillitis, which has been caused by viruses.
The main reason for the occurrence of tonsillitis is the presence of toxins inside the system, which will reduce the strength of the person. The tonsils will become enlarged and swollen when it becomes impossible to remove the toxins from the body through the normal methods like the bowels, skin and the kidneys.
Symptoms of Tonsillitis :
A sore throat is one of the first most visible symptoms of tonsillitis. Viral infections like the flu and the common cold are some of the other symptoms of tonsillitis. But otherwise the symptoms of tonsillitis caused by viruses and tonsillitis caused by bacteria are different. The body will experience a lot of aches and pains apart from a running nose. People who are having tonsillitis will also have rashes on their skin.
Children having tonsillitis will require a lot of rest as well as healthy food. They should be given a lot of soft foods and liquids like soups, milkshakes, popsicles and ice creams. Diagnosis of Tonsillitis :
A rapid strep test can be used in order to diagnose tonsillitis. This test is also known as a throat culture test. A cotton swab will be used in order to take a sample of the liquids at the back of the throat. This will have to be tested in order to determine whether the tonsillitis has been caused by a bacteria or a virus.
