Digoxin Side Effects : Effective Treatment for Heart Diseases and Associated Precautions

Lanoxin is used for treating issues relating to heart problems such as several irregular heart beat issues, congestive heart failures and other heart diseases. It helps in returning the efficiency and strength of your heart while improving better circulation of blood and associating uncomfortable swelling that is common in patients suffering congestive heart failures. This drug belongs to a drug group called digitalis glycosides.

It is usually prescribed along a water pill and an ACE inhibitor. It is usually taken daily once and should be followed at the same time each day. To help continuing with the same schedule consider taking it while brushing your teeth or before going to bed. This drug is available in several forms including capsules, tablets, injectable forms and liquids. When using its liquid form then consider taking its specially marked dropper soon. It could be consumed either with or without food whichever may suit the patient or does not irritate your stomach.

The patients being treated with Lanoxin should never double its doses. The common side effects include nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, abdominal pain, vomiting and very low pulse rate. Under cases of infants, irregular heart beat are the most common symptoms. If you miss any of its doses and remember it within 12 hours then consider taking it immediately. If missed dose time exceeds more than 12 hours then it is recommended to skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. The doses of this drug should never be doubled and the prescribed dose should never exceed more than 2 doses in a single day. If the doses get missed for 2 or more days then consider consulting your doctor before continuing with the regular schedule.

There are several side effects associating with Lanoxin. These cannot be anticipated and on developing or any change in the intensity should be referred to the doctor immediately. Common side effect symptoms include lower stomach pain, loss of appetite, male breast development, blurred vision, apathy, psychosis, nausea, yellow, vomiting, rashes, dizziness, diarrhea, headaches and weakness. On the occurrence of any of these symptoms, it should be immediately consulted with the doctor and should be only continued upon its recommendations.

If you have been allergic to any of its ingredients then do not treat with this drug. For avoiding the side effecting symptoms, one should inform his doctor first before being prescribed for the same. People suffering from heart irregularities like ventricular fibrillation should also avoid using this drug. Also this drug should not be used either alone or in combination with other drugs in order to reduce weight. It can also cause other dangerous and serious reactions associating with several heart issues.

The effects of Lanoxin under pregnancy have not been adequately studied. Therefore, while being pregnant or planning for the same it is essential to inform the doctor for avoiding the complications. This drug well appears in the breast milk and could affect the nursing infant. Doctors may prescribe the nursing women for either discontinuing breastfeeding or the treatment whichever may be more beneficial.

This drug are recommended to be stored at room temperature, tightly closed inside its container and away from direct light, heat and moisture. Lanoxin are digitalis type drugs and the major cause of accidental poisoning among the youth so keep it away from the children’s reach.
