Health Advantages of Acai Berry

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear of the word berry? Berries are fleshy, juicy and delicious fruit that can be eaten raw and often used in desserts. And when asked for an example, the foremost mentioned perhaps would be the strawberry, and then comes the blueberry, cranberry, raspberry and maybe even the blackberry. Actually, to classify these fruits as berries is a great misconception, because scientifically speaking; a berry is a fruit that forms from a single ovary only and it has to be from the ovary only and not from any other part of the flower. The fruits mentioned above would be better classified as berry-like fruits or false berries. Although some of these fruits form from the ovary, they can also form from the other parts of the flower as well, while some of them don’t even form from the ovary at all.

So, what then would be a scientifically correct example of a berry? Here then is where grapes, May apple, honeysuckle and, believe it or not, the tomato comes in. There are also the citrus fruits; orange and lemon, which classifies as modified or juicy berries. Most kinds of berries are edible, but some of them are deadly poisonous just like the nightshade. Berries aren’t only delicious to eat but they are also high in vitamins and health benefits. But why then, do you ask; am I giving you all this lessons about berries. It’s because when you talk about berries, one berry that is rapidly becoming popular in recent years because of its many health benefits is the Acai berry.

As the name implies, the Acai berry, is formed from the ovary of the flower of the Acai (Aqai) palm. This specie of palm tree has long been cultivated in Central and South America for its stem- which can be an ingredient for salads, leaves- which can be made into hats, baskets and brooms, and most especially for its small, round, black-purple colored, grapelike fruit; which is the Acai berry. This fruit has been a major part of the region’s diet and economics because of its many benefits and uses. The Acai berry can be eaten raw or served as a delicacy. It can also be powdered and turned into juice, sodas, energy drinks and other beverages. Why, it even has its own ice-cream flavor. So what then are the many benefits of the Acai Berry that has made this fruit a great health product.

There have been reports that drinking Acai berry juice helps give the body higher levels of energy and endurance which is true because of its vitamin and mineral content which helps in cleaning our body, strengthening our immune system and helping us meet the required vitamin and mineral content of our recommended dietary allowance leading us to have a more healthy lifestyle which results in fatigue elimination and prolonged physical stress and endurance.

After reading this article, I think one can arguably say that the Acai berry can really be deemed as the fruit of life simply due to the many health advantages that it can give to one’s body.
