High Blood Sugar in the Morning

Many people all over the world are being afflicted with diabetes today. The main reason for the occurrence of diabetes is the increased blood glucose levels in the body. The amount of glucose, which is present in the blood, will help in determining the blood glucose levels in the body. The food, which we consume on an everyday basis, gets converted into glucose and this is transported by the blood to all parts of the body where it gets converted into energy. Insulin, which is received from the pancreas, will help in keeping this blood sugar level stable. But if the body does not have the required amount of insulin then the glucose will not get converted into energy and this will remain in the blood and lead to high blood glucose levels.

The blood sugar levels in the body keep changing due to the hectic and sedentary lifestyles as well as food habits of people. Many people have very high levels of blood sugar in the morning and this is one condition, which needs immediate attention in order to avoid further health problems. The blood sugar levels in the body will be lowered after the consumption of breakfast and then it will start rising once again later on. People who consume food, which contains a lot of sugar, will find that their blood sugar levels are very high especially if their insulin levels are very low.

The two main reasons for the cause of very high blood sugar in the morning could either be the dawn effect or the Somogyi effect. The dawn effect is due to changes, which take place in the body of a person while he is sleeping. The blood sugar levels in the body will drop during the night while the person is sleeping. The body releases hormones in order to raise these blood sugar levels. This will reduce the amount of insulin, which is present in the body, which will result in high blood sugar levels in the body in the morning. The Somogyi effect is known as rebound hyperglycemia, which is a condition normally, found in diabetics who take insulin injections as a part of their treatment. There are many diabetics who take insulin before going to sleep at night without taking a bedtime snack. This will lower their blood sugar levels and the body will start releasing hormones, which will increase their blood sugar levels.

The blood sugar level of a diabetic should be checked by his doctor on a regular basis. The symptoms of very high blood sugar should be detected in the early stages and the blood sugar levels should be brought to a normal level as soon as possible. This will also help in understanding the reasons for the rise in blood glucose levels in the morning and the required medication can be administered. The doctor will suggest the right kind of medication depending on the blood glucose levels of the person.
