Home Remedies For Constipation

Constipation can be an occasional problem for some people and a chronic condition for others. Simple bouts of constipation are usually easily treated with a variety of home remedies, while chronic constipation can be treated even long-term with simple home remedies. If the condition is accompanied by nausea, vomiting, cramps, or even blood, it is a good idea to seek the counsel of a healthcare professional as the additional symptoms may be indicative of other health problems such as cancer.

A good home remedy for constipation is a dose of one or two teaspoons of cod liver oil, or olive oil. That will get the system moving easily without a lot of problems. Another one is a teaspoon of Epsom salts mixed into a glass of water. These are all very old home remedy recipes. Eating a lot of various fruits, especially figs, plums, dates, raisins, and prunes will also get the system moving in a more natural way.

Keeping the body well-hydrated will also help keep constipation at bay. Drinking plenty of water and various fruit juices are the best way to keep the body well-hydrated. Avoid drinking alcohol, as this tends to dehydrate the body. Drinking coffee for some is a remedy for constipation, but drinking lots of caffeinated beverages will dehydrate the body as well as alcoholic beverages.

Fruit juices that have the best effect on constipation are mulberry, blackberry, boysenberry, and elderberry. Mulberry juice is a fast-acting remedy. Prune juice is also another effective remedy. If one has a favorite fruit and juice blend, it is recommended that one mix it in a blender and drink it as need for the relief of constipation. Fresh cherries and/or cherry juice are another good home remedy. Three glassed of cherry juice a day will get rid of the constipation problem. Additionally, one can mix together equal proportions of spinach juice and carrot juice.

Eating a spoonful of brown sugar followed by drinking a glass of water has helped a lot of people with the problem of constipation, as has ingesting a few spoonfuls of castor oil. Castor oil has long been a terrific home remedy for constipation and taking a couple of teaspoons of castor oil is another fast-acting treatment for problematic bowel movements.

Typically, keeping the body well-hydrated and exercised will help with constipation. Eating a diet that has a lot of fruits, juices, and fiber will also help keep constipation at bay. There are many different remedies for constipation that are very effective, so it is primarily just a matter of trying different home remedies to see which one will work for one’s particular condition and constitution. Eat and drink well for good bowel health.
