There are some home remedies for vertigo, ranging from the use of hydrogen peroxide to performing various exercises. The condition is typically caused by calcium stones in the inner ear, which cause the dizziness.
Sometimes flushing the ear with hydrogen peroxide will loosen and soon remove the stones. This is one of the easy remedies for vertigo, but depending on how much calcium buildup is in the inner ear, it may take a bit of time to completely remove the stones. There are also various exercises for the head which are intended to help dislodge any stubborn stones so that they may be more easily removed.
The exercises designed to help remove the stones are generally done while sitting and propped up with pillows in the back. One starts by tilting the head halfway to one shoulder and holding it there for several seconds, then leaning backwards onto the pillows, and then tilting the head halfway to the other shoulder and holding that position for several seconds. If one repeats this exercise several times while still lying back on the pillows, it should be an effective home remedy for vertigo.
Reducing the amount of alcohol and caffeine in the diet is another way of reducing the symptoms of dizziness and spinning that is commonly associated with vertigo. This way the nerves are not so jumpy and are more relaxed. Trying to reduce the stress in one’s life is another recommendation for helping to control attacks. It is also thought by some that eating salty and sweet food together can provoke an attack.
Ginger is known to help relieve the symptoms of vertigo, and gingko is a very well-known remedy and one of the best natural herb remedies. Almonds, pumpkin seeds, lemon peel, and lime peel are also good home remedies for vertigo. A few more proteins in the diet also seem to help the symptoms.
No matter which natural home remedy one chooses, it is always good to first seek the counsel of a physician in order to determine the cause and severity of the condition, as vertigo may be caused by a head or neck injury, or perhaps even a viral infection. If those causes are ruled out, it should be fine to start a home remedy for vertigo. A chiropractor may also be useful to visit. A chiropractor will help realign the head and neck and this in turn will help relieve any pressure which may be exacerbating the situation and causing more dizziness and discomfort. Most health insurances today cover chiropractic care, which will make one less expense (and stress!) when trying to find a remedy to ameliorate the causes and symptoms of vertigo.
