Bacteria are single celled organisms and are found in either one of round, spiral or oral shapes. They can be of two types- one that causes harmful effects on humans and the other, causing benefits. Bacteria are capable of thriving anywhere, including the soil, water, body of multi cellular organisms and organic matter.
While looking at the positive effects of bacteria, they play a great role in producing vitamins and contribute to nutrition and digestion. They are also capable of protecting their host from infection due to alien microbes .but the harmful effects of bacteria overshadow the positive effects and there are many types of bacteria that affect our health.
A rod shaped bacterium called Yesinia which spread from fleas found in animals causes bubonic plague. The bacteria cause the victim to have a dark discoloration on the face and ultimately, lead to death. But cure has been found to this disease.
Anthrax is another type of bacteria that is harmful and attacks animals, particularly, sheep and cattle. Their modus operandi is to affect the cells of the animals and disrupt their functioning, leading to body sours, pain and death in case of failed treatment. To avoid this condition, it is necessary to check the cattle periodically and ensure that they are in good health condition, free from bacteria.
Another type of bacteria, salmonella that spreads through the food that we take, reaches the digestive system and hinders their functioning. This condition is said to be food poisoning and is a painful encounter. This, evidently, is the result of unclean food and unclean food environment. Other types of harmful bacteria cause cholera, tetanus, tuberculosis, fever and syphilis. But these said diseases can be cured through antibiotics and kill the bacteria.
Initially, the bacteria get into the patients’ body and infect, then grow rapidly in an unimaginable pace. Then, they produce toxins and enzymes that destroy the tissues and fascia in the body. When a person is infected with bacteria, it can be easily detected by signs like vomiting, nausea, and headache and severs stomach ache.
Water is a very quick and easy medium through which bacteria spread very fast. The overflow of domestic sewage or non point sources of human and animal waste leads to bacterial growth and in most of the cases, it can be easily avoided and the growth of bacteria prevented to a great extent.
