Natural Home Remedies for Sore Throat

Many a time sore throat has affected almost all of us. Sore throat is caused when there is an infection around the tonsils and in the throat region. This not only causes irritation, pain and tenderness in the throat. It may be giving out signals that there is an oncoming attack of a viral infection like influenza, cold, or even measles. There are a number of simple natural home remedies for Sore throat, which are not only very easy to administer but are sure-fire curatives.

Gargling:

The most popular and recommended remedy for sore throat is of course gargling your throat with salt water. It is a very easy home remedy. Put three teaspoons of salt into a glass of hot water and gargle your throat with this water. It immediately relieves your pain and soothes the inflamed throat. Yet another way of treating the sore throat is by adding tamarind to the gargle. Since tamarind acts effectively and speedily on sore throat, take a handful of tamarind, soak it in two glasses of water, and mash it after sometime, and filter it. This tamarind juice should be used for gargling throat. Remember even powder of dried tamarind leaves acts fast on sore throat, if mixed with water for gargling. Tea leaves should be boiled in water, which can be used for gargling. You can also drink this mixture.

Herbal drinks.

There are a number of herbal drinks which workas home remedies for sore throat. Fenugreek seeds crushed and boiled in water, and allowed to simmer for 10 minutes more can be used as a drink to get relief from sore throats. To ensure that it makes a good drink, you can add a drop of honey, or lemon and take it thrice a day, for getting rid of sore throats. Similarly, marshmallow roots are found to be good cure for sore throat. Here again, you have to make a drink out of dried marshmallow roots, which is added to boiling water and kept covered for a few minutes. Filter the liquid, and drink three cups a day. It will also help cure your sore throat.

You can also try out another home remedy. Tea made with a teaspoon apple cider vinegar, juice taken from ΒΌ lemon, a teaspoon honey and a pinch of cayenne pepper, is a good remedy for sore throat. Apart from sore throat, it is supposed to be a health drink as well. You should take at least four cups of this tea daily, to get maximum benefits.

Though sore throat is a very minor ailment, it might be a harbinger of influenza, especially swine flu. But before it develops into other conditions, treat it with any of the above simple natural home remedies.
