Acne is a problem, which is experienced by most while they are on the journey from childhood to adolescence. This is just considered as one of the side effects of the process of growing up. But sometimes scars also start appearing on the skin due to the presence of acne. The after effects, which can be caused by the acne scars, can be worse than the effects of the acne alone. If the right kind of treatment is not taken on time for acne scars, there is a likelihood that these scars will never appear in the lifetime of the person.
Causes of Acne Scars – Acne scars normally start developing while the body is making use of connective tissue in order to repair those parts of the skin, which have been damaged due to some reason. The white blood cells should work in coordination along with the required antibodies in order to repair the skin, which has been damaged by the acne. There are many bacteria and dead cells, which will block the follicles of the sebaceous glands and this, can give rise to the occurrence of acne scars. There are two main types of acne scars namely
1. Ice-pick scars
2. Raised scars
Treatment for Acne Scars -
Laser resurfacing is one of the most popular and one of the most well known methods of treating acne scars. Strong beams of light will be used in treating certain specific layers of the skin in order to get rid of all the unwanted dead cells, which are present in the skin. These laser beams will also help in getting rid of the acne scars. They will also successfully exfoliate the outer layers of the skin in order to make way for the new and clear skin, which is lying below it. This method of laser resurfacing treatment can help in improving the acne scars by 30-40%. But the skin should be given enough time to heal after the laser resurfacing treatment has been completed since the skin might become red and swollen and they could also be some visible flakes which are present on the skin. The wound should be treated and nursed in the right manner in order to avoid any kind of secondary bacterial infection or viral infection, which is likely to cause further scarring.
An acne scar removal cream can also be used in the treatment of acne scars. Some of the most well-known acne scar removal creams are Oxy10, Klear action acne treatment and skinoren acne cream.
Dermabrasion is another well known method of treating acne scars. A method called abrasion is used in order to remove the acne scars, which are present on the surface of the skin. But this is usually a very painful method of treating acne scars and most people and dermatologists will not recommend this.
