Bactrim is an antibacterial combination drug. It is mainly prescribed for treating major middle ear infections in children, several urinary tract infections and frequently recurring or long lasting bronchitis in adults. It is also prescribed for treating Pneumocystis carinii and several other similar types of Pneumocystis that primarily occur in people with weaker immune systems.

Being a powerful antibacterial drug there are certain issues that must be concerned while being treated with Bactrim. It is highly recommended to consume these drugs at the prescribed times only. Any mess-up here can make you undergo severe heath problems. If any dose is missed then consider taking it as soon as possible or just avoid it if the next dose time is close enough. Experts recommend drinking lots of fluids for preventing stone formation and sediments in urine. This drug works best if there’s constant amount in the blood and provides the most satisfactory relief. Any loose follow up of the dosing routines would result in several side effects that include skin rashes, nausea, loss or lack of appetite, hives and vomiting.

There are certain conditions under where these drugs should be practiced with certain precautionary methods. If a person being treated had suffered or is allergic to sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprin and other sulfa drugs then he or she should avoid using Bactrim. Do let know the doctor that you have the certain drug reactions. Also if you have been diagnosed for megaloblastic anemia which is a blood disorder caused due to the deficiencies of folic acids. Bactrim drugs are also strongly prohibited for treating infants less than 2 years of age. These should also not be used for prolonged sessions for treating the middle ear infections. Pregnant or baby nursing women should also prohibit its usage.

Additionally, do inform your doctor if you have been diagnosed for impaired liver or kidney functions, malabsorption syndromes, or suffer folic acid deficiencies or are chronic alcoholic or consume anticonvulsants. You can even consult with the doctor if you are in poor nutritional state or have suffered several allergies. AIDS’ patients should strongly prohibit its usage as it can trigger the side effects on a more severe note. Similarly, diarrhea patients should also strongly avoid any of its consumptions as the same would cause if you suffer from serious intestine inflammation effects.

Special care should be taken in terms of breastfeeding or pregnant women. It can well affect the unborn babies or can affect the breastfeeding babies through the mother’s milk. Older adults can be prone to its side effects on a more serious note. If somehow you overdose Bactrim then you may suffer from various symptoms such as confusion, dizziness, fever, yellow eyes and skin, mental depression and unconsciousness. These drugs are required to be stored under room temperature and away from heat & direct light and should be protected from over-freezing.
