What causes baby’s skin problems?

Usually chemicals and fragrances are harmful factors that cause irritations to babies. Detergents and baby products cause skin dryness, chafing and rashes also.

However, there is much that you can do to protect your baby from harmful factors that can cause skin problems and irritations. Your touch is one good way to nurture and protect them. This is the wonderful thing for a mom. By simply touching your babies, you can be able to save them from harm.

Skin care tips for new born babies:

  • During the early months of your baby, his immune system is still developing. He might get skin problems, allergies or even asthma if you will use baby products at an early stage of their development. To protect your baby from skin problems, you should avoid using baby products such as powder, cologne and shampoos.
  • During the preparation for child birth, you have to wash all your baby’s clothes with baby’s detergent only. Make sure that it is fragrance free and dye-free. Newborn babies usually need tie side shirts, baby blankets and pants. In washing these clothes, you should not combine your clothes with his clothes.
  • The doctors will tell you to bathe your baby everyday. But, you have to resist this thing because if you will frequently bathe your baby, the skin natural oil that protects your baby’s skin will be removing, thus allowing your baby’s skin to become exposed to allergies that can trigger eczema.
  • Sponge bath is the best thing to do during the first month. You don’t need to dramatically wash your baby’s body because he does not get dirty at all. You can just wash his mouth and the diaper area with water only. If you want, you can change his clothes at least two times a day to make sure that he’s wearing clean clothes.
  • If your bay is born past the due date, you will notice that his skin is different from babies who are born in time. They have more wrinkly skin and vernix. This is a protective covering that peels off naturally. You dont have to worry about this because it will be gone after a few weeks. Actually, all newborn babies are covered with vernix, but overdue babies experience this more.

You do not have to apply creams on your baby’s skin if he has vernix. Avoid yourself from peeling off the skin as well as rubbing the skin. This will naturally peels off as the day goes by. What you have to do is to leave it just like that.
