Water also plays an essential part in defending your body from cold. Being dehydrated means leaving your body open for germ attacks. So make sure you drink lots of water to stay well hydrated and healthy.

A cup of yogurt per day will work just fine in maintaining healthier gastrointestinal track which provides protection from colds. With live cultures, it should be yogurt which is the main ingredient to prepare the GI track for rumble. Recent researches show that daily consumption of dairy items helps loose weight and maintaining a balanced weight. This is an additional bonus to eating yogurt.

Allicin found in garlic, is an antibiotic proven for protecting complications from cold in certain researches. Garlic can also be added to many dishes to make them spicy and suit you up for battling cold germs.

Lean ground beef with a bit garlic helps in maintaining healthy cell and fight illness. It is an excellent source of zinc, selenium and protein. Further, consuming it with tomato provides good defense against cold during winter.

It is said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Similarly an orange can provide you with recommended vitamin C as daily allowance. Also rich in flavonoids, oranges help in regenerating your body cells and being strong and healthy. Among the vegetable family, the best sources of vitamin C are green bell peppers. These can be added in salad or slice them to eaten raw. Seasoned with garlic, green pepper dip adds another germ knocking effect.
