swine-fluSwine Flu is a very common occurrence among people who work with poultry and swine. People who work in intense exposures with pigs have the highest chances of getting infecting by the virus of Swine Flu. Though, it is said that people should take a proper vaccination before they start working in the close proximity of pigs. A study by the University Of Iowa has revealed the most common pattern of transmission of this disease is either from pigs or directly from an infected person.

Other professions at particular risk of infection are veterinarians and meat processing workers, although the risk of infection for both groups is lower than that of farm workers.

Direct transmission of a swine flu virus from pigs to humans is occasionally possible. In all, 50 cases in the infections are known to have occurred since the first report in medical literature in 1958, which have resulted in a total of six deaths. Of these six people, one was pregnant, one had leukemia, one had Hodgkin disease and two were known to be previously healthy.Despite these apparently low numbers of infections, the true rate of infection may be higher, since most cases only cause a very mild disease, and will probably never be reported or diagnosed.

In human Swine Flu is caused by H1N1 virus are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general

Symptoms include :

  1. Fever
  2. Cough
  3. Sore throat
  4. Body aches
  5. Headache chills and fatigue.
  6. Vomiting in some cases.

Thus it is always said that whenever you have these symptoms in the mid humid summer you must go for a blood test. Swine Flu is highly contagious in nature thus it is always best if one can go for a preventive in the season when swine flu outbreaks. Generally this flu spreads with sneezing and touching of the infected people. There is a misconception about the Swine Flu that it can spread through pork products. Swine flu cannot be spread by pork products, since the virus is not transmitted through food.

This flu can easily be treated with anti viral medications and certain preventions that people can take whenever the out break of disease occurs.

These preventive measures include these:

  • Covering the face, whenever there are people sneezing around you.
  • General rules of hygiene-like not using the same towel or bath accessories as they may have the germ.
