Symptoms and Home remedies for Mononucleosis

Glandular fever also known as Infectious mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is a type of herpes virus. Since young people seem to be more prone to be infected by this attack it is known also as the student flu. The sickness is a very serious kind, which can debilitate and can take many months to completely heal.

Symptoms of Mononucleosis :

Symptoms of this condition include extreme fatigue, muscular aches associated with high fever, pains all over the body, sore throat, swollen lymph glands, especially in the neck portions.

Home Remedies for Mononucleosis :

The condition is serious when the patient continues to suffer over a period of months. Apart from allopathic medications, there are a number of home remedies to relieve the symptoms of Mononucleosis.

1. Aromatherapy is considered a good way to relieve the condition. Massaging with essential oils can be of great help. Lavender has plenty of anti-virus qualities and can be used in the form of oil for massaging for effective treatment of mononucleosis. However care should be take not massage when the patient has fever, instead dilute the oil with water and sponge down.

2. There are some remedies from homeopathic medicines, to alleviate exhaustion, sweating, aches and pains. Especially depression can be treated by Homeopathic medicines.

3. Chinese traditional method of acupuncture can also relieve the condition.

4. The situation can be prevented, and when Mononucleosis sets in can be treated through nutritious food, which is having lots of antioxidant properties. These include vitamins C, and E, beta carotene, B-Complex, and minerals like iron, zinc, copper and selenium.

5. Garlic and ginger can give a relief from this condition.

6. When you don’t have proper quantity of essential fatty acids in your body, mononucleosis can manifest. Therefore ensure that you get these fatty acids in sufficient quantities.

7. A primrose oil and fish oils combo can help supply fatty acids to the body and relieve you of fatigue.

8. Vitamin C in large doses is sometimes administered intravenously to get relief from the symptom. However this is not a home remedy, and it has to be given by physician. This method combined with a drug, to relieve the Mononucleosis is in practice in the United States.

9. Other forms of treatment include counseling, relaxation methods, and meditation.

Since Mononucleosis is known to be caused from a virus, all precautions to prevent exposure to this virus should be taken, as this is a very debilitating disease which can see you tied down to your bed for prolonged periods.

Another condition which can be caused by herpes virus, this time herpes zoster virus is known as Shingles, which takes over when your immunity is low. This condition causes acute skin sensitivity, rash around midriff, face, neck and sometimes eyes. This condition can be relieved through aromatherapy, or acupuncture.
