The right kind of precautions can ensure that this season of the year becomes the most enjoyable part of the year. The right kind of changes to our lifestyles and diet patterns will have to be incorporated in order to ensure that our health stays intact.
Symptoms Experienced During Winter :
The hunger of people starts increasing during the winter season and many people would like to eat a lot of sweet things like chocolates and other foods, which contain a lot of starch. Due to this a lot of people start gaining weight while some people are subjected to certain psychological symptoms like irritation, anger and depression. But these characteristics are mostly found in people who stay in places, which experience a very long spell of winter every year.
Skin Care During the Winter :
The air does not contain much humidity during the winter and it is not possible for the skin to have a lot of moisture during this season. The poor humidity is due to the system of indoor heating which is present inside every home and the hot showers and baths, which are taken on a regular basis and which will make the skin extremely dry. The skin can also start cracking and bleeding once it becomes dry.
Precautions Long-term hot showers and baths should be avoided. A body wash, which also contains moisturizer, should be used and petroleum jelly should be applied on areas, which are exposed like the knees, elbows and the heels. Lip gel should be applied on the lips on a regular basis in order to prevent them from cracking. Regular aerobics will help in maintaining a healthy glow on the skin. The body can also be given a regular oil massage during the winter. The face should not be washed too often during this time period. This will remove all the moisture content, which is present on the face. Luke warm water should be used instead of hot water to wash the face of the person.
Ailments Experienced During Winter :
- Hypothermia - This is a condition where the general temperature of the body falls below 95 F or below that. But this condition should be diagnosed at the right time and the right kind of treatment should be administered immediately. It will take a few days for the body to reach this state of affairs. This condition is usually reached when the body is at a temperature of 60-65 F. The blood vessels, which are present near the surface of the body, will start becoming narrow in order to prevent the loss of heat. People experiencing hypothermia will start shivering and feeling drowsy and their pulse as well as heartbeat will also start slowing down and their breathing could also become shallow.
- Frostbite - The face, feet, hands and wrists are those parts of the body, which have been exposed to the chilly air of the winter. These are most likely to be affected by frostbite. The skin will become very stiff and white and it will also start feeling numb. The entire body should be wrapped using warm clothes and medical attention should also be sought whenever required.
