With the evolution of ergonomic chairs there was comforts finally introduced into the office environment. Earlier with the traditional office chair the employees experienced a lot of discomforts sitting for longer durations and suffered a number of work induced injuries. The ergonomic chairs introduced a number of comforting features that facilitated the employees not only the comforts but also provided them for carrying longer working sessions. Now, the newest addition to the ergonomic office chair range is the ergonomic kneeling chairs that provide much more comforts than the regular ergonomic office chairs.

The ergonomic kneeling chair was first invented by Hans Mengshoel of Norway in 1970. The main idea behind developing the ergonomic kneeling chair was to provide a more comforting vertical position by expanding the angle between the legs and torso. For achieving this purpose the chair featured a slanting position which allowed the knees to drop at 20-30 degrees as the chins rested on the padded support.

The slanting position of the ergonomic kneeling does not actually mimics as the kneeling position. Also the angle of the sitting pad does not feature a design that encourages forward leaning. The main objective of the ergonomic kneeling chair is to provide an angle that allows the spine to stand up vertically. As against this the traditional office chair was designed to support a 90 degree angle. This sitting position specially caused the compression of hip flexors and forced the pelvic bowel to tilt forward. Working for longer durations in this posture resulted in the form of severe back pains. The ergonomic kneeling chair alleviates this problem by relaxing the compressions of hip flexors.

The ergonomic kneeling chairs also have several health benefits. The downward angled seat requires less of the core muscle engagement for keeping the spines straight. Further, a portion of the body’s weight is supported by the shins that allow some relief to the spines as it has less of the gravitational burden.

As such the ergonomic kneeling chair is very much comforting; there are also certain additional benefits of using the same. Using this chair reduces the risk of many work induced injuries. It also helps in carrying longer work sessions thereby increasing productivity as well as performance. Besides, it also helps in keeping the minds in a healthy state which bring more effort to the works.
