One man said, “Uh oh, someone’s deodorant isn’t working.” Heard this line but it didn’t occur to you that the line was meant for you? Now try smelling yourself, smells funny don’t you? In this case you now have a nasty and unpleasant body odor.
Body odor, also known as Apocrine bromhidrosis, osmidrosis, ozochrotia, fetid sweat, or most commonly known as B.O. is the smell of bacteria growing on the body. These bacteria multiply very rapidly in the presence of sweat (but sweat itself is odorless to humans). Body odor or B.O. is commonly found on the hair, feet, groin (upper middle thigh) anus, skin in general, armpits and ears.
You may look very attractive and be very well dressed but body odor can be socially embarrassing. Want to avoid them? Here’s how.
Avoiding Body Odor
- Try and stay cool, sweat is a transmitter of the odor.
- If you have unpleasant body odor, be certain to shower or bathe daily.
- Apply an absorbent powder such as baby powder to your underarms after bathing.
- Make sure you wear fresh clothes.
- Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes for they do not allow enough air to circulate in and around the body thus making people who wear them sweat more.
- Do not wear synthetics fabrics.
- Wear loose, fitting, cotton clothes.
- When using perfume and colognes, do so in moderation.
- Shaving your underarms could also help, since hair in these areas tends to make bacteria stay put.
- You can discard some of the excess bacteria by swabbing your underarms with rubbing alcohol or witch hazel before applying deodorant
- A baking soda water paste applied to the areas of smelliness can help neutralize existing odor.
- Use of antiperspirant products and deodorants would get rid of the body odor (use them with properly and with caution).
- Alcohol and tobacco are known to contribute ante up body odors
- Avoid refined sugar (refined sugar feeds bacteria thus increasing your body odor many times over).
- Zinc deficient people may have more body odor than normal. Taking zinc supplement may help.
- Certain foods (fish, garlic or onions) can cause moerodor. Skip these if odor is notable.
- If you have difficulties in digesting food that contains choline (eggs, fish and beans), avoid them completely.
If you are really serious to avoid body odor, you must make conscious effort and you must be aware on how your body reacts to your activities. Regular exercise and a well controlled diet would greatly help you. Along with other simple measures such as using perfumes, deodorants, colognes etc. You should feel fresh and you should always smell good. It would enhance your personality tenfold.
